Project Overview

As a medium-sized regional college, growing your fundraising base is an annual challenge, as is keeping your existing donors and alumni engaged. This was precisely the challenge we were presented with with Kutztown University met with us for the purpose of designing an appealing and effective microsite.

My Role

As a project lead and UX designer, I was tasked with a principle role in shaping the project’s success. They had a powerful story that needed to be told. Through user-centric research and design strategies, I developed a content plan and UX structure that met both the client’s goals and project budget.

Wireframes

Time and budget were essential in this project. So, I devised a content structure using simple design tools to establish the user experience. Following an extensive client discovery session, I sketched out a basic wireframe structure using the Notability program on my iPad. This low-fidelity prototype, while crude, identified the essential content blocks and user flow. In close collaboration, my art director took these designs and a content doc (below) and built out her single-page UI.

Content Structure Doc

Prior to developing the wireframes, I created a content structure doc that established topics and goals for each “chunk” of content on the microsite. Once the wireframe was established and agreed upon with my art director, the structure doc content was populated in collaboration with the client.

Results

I met client approval on all phases of the UX design process and through close collaboration with my art director we were able to meet each of our project deadlines and exceed our client’s expectations for striking visual content. The Kutztown Foundation successfully launched their new website in late of 2021 and was able to surpass its fundraising and alumni engagement goals within the calendar year.
